One of the objectives at Garfield Montessori School is to provide a Mandarin immersion environment so that children can either maintain the level of fluency of their mother language or learn a second language in a fun and efficient way. Learning a second language at an early age offers numerous benefits to children, including improved cognitive skills, enhanced memory, greater cultural understanding, and increased confidence, ultimately leading to better academic and career prospects.

Mandarin Immersion for the Toddler Program focusing on developing listening and speaking abilities in Mandarin, in addition to English, aiming to help children understand and communicate in both Mandarin AND English.

Mandarin Immersion will be more in-depth in the Primary Program, aiming to develop children’s listening, speaking, and reading skills in Mandarin, while supporting the early stages of writing. In a rich and developmentally appropriate bilingual environment, children build strong communication skills in both Mandarin AND English. The program also fosters an appreciation of Chinese language and traditional culture through stories, songs, foods, celebrations, and cultural activities.
