Toddler Program

18 - 36 months

The core curriculum for the Toddler Program at Garfield Montessori School encompasses Montessori activities that focus on practical life, sensorial, language, social, motor, and cognitive development, as well as enrichment activities such as music, sports, and art.

Examples of Montessori concepts/activities for toddlers:

Practical Life - Foster independence, coordination, and a sense of personal responsibility. Children engage in purposeful tasks such as putting on and taking off shoes, washing their hands, preparing food, and developing toileting skills. These activities lay the foundation for self-confidence and functional autonomy in daily life.

Sensorial - Help children explore and make sense of the world through touch, sight, sound, and more. They work with hands-on materials to match colors, feel different textures, and sharpen their observation skills. These early experiences lay the groundwork for focus, awareness, and a strong foundation for future learning.

Language - Support early communication skills through rich verbal interaction, vocabulary building, and listening activities. Children engage in naming body parts, colors, objects, and pictures, while also exploring rhythm, songs, stories, and early counting experiences. These activities foster the development of expressive and receptive language, laying the groundwork for literacy and cognitive growth.

Social - Social development is nurtured through guided interactions that promote respect, empathy, and cooperation. Children learn to engage positively with peers and adults, follow simple instructions, and begin to identify and name emotions in themselves and others. These experiences support the development of self-regulation, social awareness, and foundational interpersonal skills.

Motor - Support the development of both gross and fine motor skills through purposeful movement. Children practice climbing, carrying, grasping, pouring, and other activities that enhance balance, coordination, and hand strength. These motor experiences are closely linked to the development of hand-eye coordination, focus, and essential cognitive abilities.

Cognitive - Support concentration, problem-solving, and the ability to make choices. Through repetition and independence, children begin to build memory, logical thinking, and an understanding of cause and effect.

Mandarin Immersion will be provided in the Toddler Program, focusing on developing listening and speaking abilities in Mandarin, in addition to English. The Mandarin Immersion for Toddler Program aims to help children understand and communicate in both Mandarin AND English.
